Learning from the top.
I’m lucky enough, so far, to have done some cool things with cool (and not so cool) Companies and improved their ability to innovate quickly and launch new things to get new customers and grow. Being the leader in these roles, I often felt like I was being de-skilled. Not learning, just teaching.
Still leading, but also learning. Learning about the determination of someone (no names!) to own and lead a campaign to drive yboo to tens of millions of families in the UK. Learning how she’s drafted a plan based on ambition and KPIs then worked backwards to fill the gaps we don’t have internally and find those skills somewhere else.
Learning about a love of makeup and dogs and design. Learning about a plan to conquer the most dangerous and challenging environment on the planet. Finding the ‘WHY?’ in the heart of my team and watching that WHY come to life to deliver everything we’ve been asked to do and even more.
Learning that determination in your heart and belief in yourself makes you more effective that a ‘specialist’ with more skills but no determination or motivation.
An organisation is only as good as its people. A brand on the wall is meaningless, like words on a page, if that brand is not loved and lived by the people inside the room. If the WHY is not vocal and emotional and raw, what’s the point?
