Need help when switching networks? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

At yboo, our mission is to match you with the best SIM Only deal for your usage. To do this, we need to make sure that the process of switching networks is as easy for you as possible. So, we’ve created this handy guide to give you all the information you need when you’re looking to switch.

Before you take out a deal with another network, there are a few things to check before leaving your current network.

Checking if you are eligible to leave your current network means finding out if you are still under contract with them; this could be a mobile contract or a SIM only plan. If you are, you will have to pay a cancellation fee to cover the remaining period (months) left on your contract. Depending on the time remaining this could end up being quite costly.

If you are looking at new networks we really recommend checking the signal strength within your area. With yboo this has never been easier. Simply tap on one of the many SIM only deals offered on the app and that operators’ UK signal strength will be shown. To see how all the networks’ compare just head to the app Settings > Operators. This is currently only available on our iOS App, but is coming very soon to Android.

How to leave your current network

Once you’ve checked if you are eligible to leave your current network, you will need to inform your current network that you would like to leave. This will activate your 30 day notice period (you will be charged your normal monthly amount for this period) If you do not want to keep your mobile number, you are now free to take out a deal with another network and discard of your old SIM card.

If you would like to keep your number, you will need to inform your current network that you would like to transfer your number to another network. The network will then provide you with a PAC Code.

A PAC Code (Porting Authorisation Code) is used to transfer your number across networks. It usually consists of 9 characters and is provided from your old network when you inform them that you would like to leave and keep your number. This code is usually provided to you within 2 hours of your request. Once you have received your code, you will need to provide it to your new network.

Within the table below, we have listed the methods of getting a PAC Code from each network.
